ABOUT FUNDRAISER

August 24, 2007

Jamiel Neal was the passenger in a friend’s car when the driver lost control causing the car to take out about 100 yards of guardrail, flip over and land on the other side of the Sprain Brook Parkway going through Greenburgh, NY. Jamiel was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident due to blunt force trauma to his head.  The driver became the first person in Westchester County convicted under the First Degree Vehicular Manslaughter law for driving drunk and causing the crash.  He was also convicted of aggravated DWI and DWI with a previous conviction and a misdemeanor DWI charge.

After the loss of their loved one, Jamiel’s family wanted to help prevent others from experiencing this type of tragedy. In 2009, his niece Brittany held the first fundraiser at Temple University, where she was completing her senior year.  The proceeds from that event were donated to the local Philadelphia chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).  Since then, the fundraiser has expanded and in 2012 became known as the Jamiel Neal Fundraiser held in Jamiel’s hometown of White Plains, New York.  The New York event had representatives from MADD and the Westchester County Police Department, as well as family and close friends of Jamiel shared words of encouragement and advice on how to avoid drunk driving incidents and fatalities.

2017 marked 10 years since Jamiel Neal died in an accident involving alcohol and marked the biggest year for the Jamiel Neal Fundraiser.  The mission of the Fundraiser is to uplift and strengthen our community by enhancing our knowledge of the dangers and effects of drunk driving; with your donations and support we've fulfilled that mission in 2017 by hosting and participating in three major events: Jamiel Neal Fundraiser, Jamiel Neal School Supply Giveaway & BBQ, and Walk Like MADD with Team Jamiel Neal.

Furthermore, 2022 marked 15 years since Jamiel Neal died and Jamiel Neal's family was the honored family at the 2022 Walk Like MADD in Westchester.

THANK YOU to everyone that have supported and donated to the Jamiel Neal Fundraiser over the last few years.
